The aorta is the main artery that transports blood from the heart.
It branches out into multiple collateral smaller arteries: digestive arteries, renal arteries…
At the abdomen level, the aorta branches off into 2 iliac arteries : left and right, one for each inferior limb.
The iliac arteries then branch out as femoral arteries at the groin and the thigh and then become the popliteal artery at the knee.
There are 3 arteries per leg: anterior tibial artery, the posterior tibial artery and the peroneal artery.
