TREATMENTS

Fighting factors of vascular risks with hygienic and dieting measures (walking regularly, stop smoking, dieting) as well as with medication (vasodilators) brings hope to stabilize these lesions.

Your fate does not just depend on your physicians; it mostly depends on your will to get treated.

1 – tobacco : Don’t even smoke one last cigarette

Tobacco must be totally and definitively suppressed.

Ask help from your family and friends. Each additional cigarette is one more day without your legs.

Does the person offering you a cigarette know that you might end up amputated because of it?

2 - Weight, diet

Stay thin by keeping a healthy and balanced diet.

do not eat too fat

do not eat rapid sugar if you have a diabet

Do not take too much salt if you have an hypertension

3 – Walking :  is the main factor.

Anyone suffering from this disease must be taking walks every day for 2 kms day and night to dilate little arteries. Trampling does not equal walking. Stop only in case of extraordinarily bad weather.

Bicycling can replace walking but can be hazardous when a prosthetic apparatus has been placed near the groin.

These muscular exercises must be stopped during painful crises and resumed after they’ve stopped.

Walking improves the state of non-operated patients and increases chances of remissions compared to operated patients.

4 – Foot care

-poorly washed feet can get infected: wash your feet daily.

- A shoe being to tight can cause gangrene. Make sure you pick confortable shoes.

- Cold weather is dangerous: during winter, avoid the cold by wearing wool socks.

- Protect yourself from injuries.

5 - Medication

-Anti-platelets drugs: Aspirin (Aspegic, Kardegic…), Clopidogrel (Plavix).

They make the blood more liquid.  Ils fluidifient le sang. Precription of anti-platelet drug treatment is the rule. These are the most basic medications.

- Anticoagulants :

Sintrom, Préviscan, Coumadine.....  They also help to fluidify the blood.

The dosage must be precisely calibrated thanks to blood draws calculating the levels of prothrombine (25 to 40%) and the INR (2 to 3)

The new anticoagulants : Xarelto, Pradaxa don't need any surveillance

- Treatment targeting cholesterol levels

The new recommandations of theAmerican College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association are :

Using exclusively the statines

Distiguish  4 catégories of patients for intensive or moderate treatments

- Treatment of the  hypertension

- Vasodilators: They are not very efficient
